Country Club Plaza

Built in 1922 to resemble a Spanish marketplace, the country's first suburban shopping center and Kansas City's premier shopping district consists of a tree-lined, 14-square-block area with more than 180 shops, dozens of restaurants and nightspots, 30-some statues and fountains, horse-drawn carriage rides, and, March through January, 40-minute Fiesta Cruises on Brush Creek.

Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

Kansas City's premier museum is especially noted for its Asian art, including T'ang dynasty bowls and Ming dynasty furniture; an outdoor sculpture garden with the largest U.S. collection of bronzes by Henry Moore; the largest public collection of works by Missouri native Thomas Hart Benton; a collection of 17th- and 18th-century European paintings; Impressionist and post-Impressionist pieces; and American art. The museum includes works by Caravaggio, Titian, Rembrandt, Renoir, Poussin, Degas, Monet, Gauguin, van Gogh, and Willem de Kooning. The airy Rozelle Court Restaurant has extended dinner hours on Friday, with live music.

City Market

In operation since the 1850s, this outdoor market is busiest on Saturday, when 150 vendors offer everything from vegetables and flowers to live chickens and T-shirts. An arts and crafts market is featured Sundays, May through August. The outdoor market is surrounded by 37 permanent indoor specialty shops, international groceries, and restaurants occupying an Art Deco building and the Arabia Steamboat Museum.

Harley Davidson Factory Tour

Congress • Kansas City, MO 64153 • 414.343.7850 • 877.883.1450 The Kansas City plant assembles Harley-Davidson's Sportster and Dyna models, and builds Harley's newest bike and its engine, the V-Rod and liquid-cooled Revolution, from the frame up. While staying in-between the yellow lines and dodging the occasional fork truck, visitors to the plant see these processes up close, often close enough to chat with employees working the line.

The tour center features a series of displays that guide you through the various manufacturing and assembly processes and illustrate the individual and collaborative skills necessary to produce each motorcycle. You'll also have the chance to sit on current production motorcycles and visit the gift shop, which features tour-related souvenirs.

American Jazz Museum

Negro Leagues Baseball Museum

Housed under the same roof as the Jazz Museum, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum tells the compelling story of segregated baseball, from the founding of the Negro National League just a few blocks away in 1920, until Jackie Robinson, who played for the Kansas City Monarchs, signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.

Union Station is a fully renovated 1914 landmark that is Kansas City's home to a permanent rail exhibit with vintage rail cars, an interactive science center "Science City", a theatre district, fine restaurants, unique shops, and much more.

Shopping

Country Club Plaza
The Country Club Plaza is the oldest shopping in the country that attracts 10 million tourists a year. It has more than 180 stores in this 14 block area to make it one of a kind. The architecture is much a sight as the merchants. The Plaza is modeled after Seville, Spain and it is especially noted for its exceptional holiday lighting display illuminated each Thanksgiving through mid-January.

Crown Center
Crown Center contains three levels of more than 50 specialty stores located on the southern edge of downtown near Grand Avenue and Pershing Road. It also features two world class hotels and several restaurants. Crown Center Square is located right across from the shopping center and is the heart of the complex offering year round activities like the ethnic festivals, antique shows, outdoor movie series, and a pumpkin patch. East of the square is the Crown Center Ice Terrace which is the city's only public outdoor ice skating rink!

Town Center Plaza
This is "The Plaza of the South" located at 119th Street and Roe Avenue in Leawood. Town Center has many nationally known shops including several upscale specialty stores!

Village West
Village West is located in Wyandotte County in Kansas City, KS. It features the Kansas Speedway, the Great Wolf Lodge Indoor Waterpark Resort, Community America Ball Park and the Kansas City T-Bones baseball team, as well as the Chateau Avalon Hotel. It also features over 70 specialty and unique retail stores, including destination entertainment, a cinema, and many restaurants.
