Just how much does Bruce Pearl owe his Volunteer success to Chris Lofton, one of the best outside shooters to ever lace up a pair of high-tops? From the outside looking in, it would seem like a great deal, but UT basketball is more than one guard, however prolific a scorer they are. Coach Pearl is a good recruiter and a masterful motivator and that's why he has the Volunteers competing for SEC East Championships again. Can Tennessee fans expect that continue in 2007-08? In a word, yes.

Led by the incredible Lofton, the Vols feature some talent and can beat any team currently in Division 1. The frontcourt includes sophomore Wayne Chism and Iowa transfer Tyler Smith. The unfortunate suspension of Duke Crews hurts some, but midway through the season, JP Prince, a 6-7 transfer from Arizona, will be eligible, making the Volunteers much more formidable. If these players can give Lofton any kind of help and can create the necessary spacing for him, he will have a ridiculous senior season.

While Pearl has definitely increased the excitement around Tennessee basketball, it's time for him to have some success in the March tournaments. Can they get all the way to the Final Four in 2007-08? If all their talent is available and is playing cohesively, then yes, a run to the last weekend of college basketball is certainly attainable. Make sure you don't miss a game as the Volunteers look to improve on last year's respectable showing.
