Alabama Crimson Tide
Year two of the Nick Saban rebuilding project greets Crimson Tide fans with the nation's top-ranked recruiting class, including the services of Julio Jones, the nation's best prospect. However, will this be enough to improve on last season's 7-6 record? Will it be enough to beat arch-nemesis Auburn, something they haven't done since 2001? How about LSU?
Leading the way for the offense will be senior quarterback John Parker Wilson. He'll be joined in the back field by Roy Upchurch and Terry Grant, who should comprise the bulk of the carries for the Crimson Tide. With the addition of Jones, the Crimson Tide possesses an aerial attack that could plague some of the lesser secondaries. If Alabama expects to do better than last year's record, they'll have to do it against a tough schedule. The question concerning Alabama surrounds their defense. Will it be able to keep opposing teams out of the end zone?
Besides the Auburn game, the Crimson Tide will be tested with games against Tennessee in Knoxville, Georgia in Athens, the defending National Champions LSU at Baton Rogue and the Clemson Tigers in the Georgia Dome to open the season. When you mix in the rest of Alabama's schedule, it adds up to a tough season for any team, let alone one still trying to rebuild the program to resemble Alabama teams of the past. The SEC will be as tough as ever and if you want to compete for the SEC Championship, you have to be talented and lucky. Does Alabama have enough of each? Make sure you don't miss a game so you can find out.
A bit of history...
The Crimson Tide played their first football game on November 11, 1892. They defeated Birmingham High School 56-0. Alabama is ranked fifth on the all-time victory list for Division I, and ranks among the best in postseason play holding NCAA records for most bowl games and wins. It has also had the most 10-win seasons-the most by any Division I school.
Bryant-Denny Stadium.
The stadium has undergone several renovations including increasing the seating to 92,138 making it the fifth largest on-campus football stadium in the nation. This is the third expansion since 1988. The expansion added three levels of seating, two large video scoreboards, and state-of-the-art wrap around display boards. Also added were 38 skyboxes, a club level area and a traditional upper deck seating.
