After a return to greatness last year, what does Gary Pinkel have in store for Missouri and their fans in 2008? With Heisman hopeful Chase Daniel leading the way, the Tigers look like they will be in the mix for outright Big 12 title and perhaps the BCS Championship. As fans and foes alike learned in 2007, Missouri has an incredibly potent offense that can score on any team in America. Besides Daniel, the Tigers have some talented weapons at their disposal including, receivers Jeremy Maclin and Jared Perry; running backs Jimmy Jackson and sophomore Derrick Washington at the running backs and the tight end duo of Andrew Jones and Chase Coffman.
When you add in a talented and experienced offensive line, it's easy to see why Missouri has no problem putting points on the board. Leading the defense is an incredibly talented secondary, led by free safety William Moore. Because of the attacking offenses in the Big 12, Missouri's defensive secondary is an important part of their team and valuable asset on Saturdays. The ability to slow down opposing teams' passing attack is a valuable commodity in the Big 12. Joining the Tigers impressive secondary is a defensive line that capable of putting pressure on any offense attack. With these two components operating on such a high level, it's easy to see why many in the national media think Missouri has the necessary tools to compete for BCS Championship.
To get to that point, the Tigers will have to navigate a schedule that includes Illinois, Nevada, Nebraska, and of course, rival Kansas. Considering just manageable their schedule is, Missouri should have no problem challenging for the Big 12 title, an idea that raises the level of excitement around the program exponentially.
