Though some Seattle fans insist that the new Key Arena is still the old Coliseum and should never have changed its name, the majority are thrilled with the renovated 17,072-seat arena where the Sonics' capped their 1996 return to Seattle Center by beating the Chicago Bulls in two out of three NBA Finals games.

The Sonics' home—a stone's throw from the Space Needle—offers all of the typical special effects of the flashy new NBA arenas: a new eight-sided, 57,000-pound video scoreboard; an ear-shattering public address system, light shows that would put a Madonna concert to shame; billows of colored smoke that emit from the ceiling while the announcer is shouting out the names of the players; and, of course, a mascot who performs amazing acrobatics and whips the crowd into an even greater frenzy.

Concessions
You can get anything from Thai food to pizza at Key Arena's 22 concession stands, but it's the fresh seafood that gives the place its unique Pacific Northwest flavor. Prawns, crab, shrimp, and even salmon are popular in season.

Parking
Simply stated, there is nowhere to park at Key Arena. The arena structure holds just over 650 cars, most of which are used by season ticketholders. There are a few tiny lots in the immediate area, but they gouge prices on game nights and fill up quickly. Public transportation is your best bet.

Directions
From I-5: Take Mercer Street exit and take right at light. Take left at next light onto Valley and follow into Broad. Take right on Denny then right on 1st Avenue.
