U.S. Cellular Field formerly known as Comiskey Park is a baseball stadium in Chicago, Illinois. It is the home of the Chicago White Sox of the American League. The park opened for the 1991 season after the White Sox had spent 81 years at Comiskey Park. The new park opened as Comiskey Park, but was renamed in 2003 after U.S. Cellular bought the naming rights and was host to the MLB All-Star game that same year.
The stadium is located in Chicago's Armour Square neighborhood. It is at 35th Street and Shields Avenue. It was built in the parking lot of old Comiskey Park which was torn down to become a parking lot for the current field. Since the stadium was opened in 1991 it has had several renovations over the years beginning in 2001 and every year since. Renovations have included replacing the old blue seats with green seats in the entire upper deck and lower deck between dugouts, the enclosed below ground restaurant was completed providing food service to scout seats, the life size statues of Nellie Fox and Luis Aparicio were placed on the center field concourse, new banners were hung down on the outfield light towers-one for the 2005 World Series, one for the 1906 and 1917 World Series and one for all White Sox American league pennants, and one for all division championships, and last, but not least flags for these titles, now on the banners, were replaced with flags of all the Sox logos in club history! Prior to 2006 the club has gone through many more extreme structure renovations like improvements to the main and club levels, new bullpens and bleachers, the video boards and scoreboards were updated, and the roof was replaced as well as much more!
