After a stellar draft, the Kansas City Chiefs are looking to close the book on a disappointing 2007 season and move forward by restating their claim on the AFC West. Can head coach Herm Edwards continue to spearhead the necessary changes and get his team on the positive side of a win-loss record? Of course, most of that depends on how well his roster performs.
The first, most pressing question has to do with quarterback position. Is Brody Croyle the answer for the Chiefs or will the experiment fail, pushing the Chiefs rebuilding schedule back? Naturally, a quarterback is only as good as the players around him and with that in mind, the Chiefs entered the off season bound and determined to improve their offensive line, while trying to add weapons Croyle can use.
In the backfield, the Chiefs should have a healthy Larry Johnson to help reduce the load on the new quarterback. If the newly-constructed offensive line performs as expected, Johnson should have another Pro Bowl-worthy year. When it's time to pass, Croyle can expect Dwayne Bowe and Tony Gonzalez to see a lot of footballs thrown their direction. As for the defensive side, with the departure of Jared Allen, a great deal will be expected from rookie Glenn Dorsey, the fifth overall pick. If he performs up to expectations, the Chiefs respectable defense shouldn't miss a beat.
The Chiefs were originally called the Dallas Texans and were founded in 1960. The team was moved to Kansas City in 1963 and became known as the Kansas City Chiefs at that time. The Chiefs are the second AFL team to defeat an NFL club in an AFL-NFL World Championship Game when they defeated the Vikings in Super Bowl IV.
