Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts are the reigning Super Bowl Champions! The Colts defeated the Bears 29-17. Will the Colts be able to defend their title this 2007 season? If coach Tony Dungy, has anything to say about it his team will be right back in the thick of things! Coach Dungy is supported with many talented players including his leader, QB Peyton Manning, K Adam Vinatieri, C Jeff Saturday, WR Marvin Harrison, RB Joseph Addai, and WR Reggie Wayne!
The Colts were 12-4 last season and as you know went on to become the Super Bowl Champions. The Colts use a no-huddle offense which means Manning calls his plays at the line of scrimmage. Will the no-huddle offense prevail and keep the Colts galloping all over their opponents?
The team began play in 1953 as the Baltimore Colts and were not moved to Indianapolis until prior to the 1984 season. The Colts were the first NFL team to have cheerleaders and the old Colts fan club and marching band became a supportive entity of the new franchise!
Lucas Oil Stadium
The Indianapolis Colts will be christening a new stadium this year as the curtain comes down on the high-tech, fan-friendly Lucas Oil Stadium. The state-of-the-art facility includes a retractable roof and a 214-foot moveable window wall, while the football field will be made of Field Turf.
These features will allow the Colts to play in both indoor and outdoor settings with the window wall allowing more natural sunlight to come in. Lucas Oil Stadium has a seating capacity of 63,000 and can be expanded to 70,000 if the facility gets awarded a Super Bowl. Inside the stadium are two high-definition scoreboards, measuring 97’x53’. The $675 million facility will be located in same district as the RCA Dome, which is scheduled to be demolished once Lucas Oil Stadium is officially opened.
Besides being the new home of the Indianapolis Colts, Lucas Oil Stadium will be host to the Men’s and Women’s NCAA Final Four, beginning with the Men’s in 2010. Starting in the fall of 2008, the Indiana High School Football State Championship will be played there; just one of the many Indiana State High School competitive events scheduled for Lucas Oil Stadium.
Indianapolis
Indianapolis is one serious sports town. The Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400 attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to the city in May and August. The city also bills itself as the "Amateur Sports Capital of the World," and boasts world-class sports facilities. Indy natives rally behind the city's pro franchises--the NBA's Indiana Pacers, and the NFL's Indianapolis Colts.
After an extensive beautification project that began in the 1980's, Indianapolis has evolved into a flourishing hub for industry, commerce, sports, and entertainment. The capital of Indiana is a city full of fun places to see and fun things to do.
